Quick Overview

100% Biodegradable coir sediment control check dam with two filter aprons.
9 in X 15 ft

Product Description

The BioD-SiltCheck™ sediment control device is effective in many types of construction site applications. Made of 100% coir, it includes a coir fiber body, which filters and reduces the speed of flowing water, and upstream and downstream filter aprons, which trap sediment and control erosion. When installed properly, the upstream filter apron prevents undercutting, while the downstream filter apron eliminates downstream erosion caused by water flowing over the device.

Most straw and excelsior wattles are wrapped in plastic netting with fixed intersecting points. This design can injure or trap wildlife. By contrast, BioD-SiltCheck™ is encased by a strong, durable, natural coir netting with moveable intersecting points. It poses no hazard to wildlife. Also, biodegradable BioD-SiltCheck™ can be abandoned in place, unlike synthetic materials, which involves the added costs of removal and disposal. BioD-SiltCheck™ is available in 9 in X 15 ft, and 12 in x 15 ft sizes.

Advantages

  • Strong performance upon installation.
  • Stops possible under cuttin and downstream erosion.
  • Flexible to maintain close contact with the soil surface.
  • Effectively filters sediment.
  • No need to remove when the project is completed.
  • Large contact area at the bottom increases efficiency.
  • Extends easily to form continouos sections.
  • 100% natural material blends with the environment
  • 100% biodegradable, yet durable coir fiber.
  • Available in 9-in and 12-in heights.
  • Lasts 2 to 4 years.
  • Does not attract wildlife as food.
  • No plastic netting to harm wildlife.
  • Can be used for streambank restorations in low velocity streams
  • Strong and durable, yet biodegradable outer netting.
  • Greater effective height compared to standard wattles.
  • Effective in many sediment control applications.
  • Overall the most effective sediment barrier/check dam.

When comparing the BioD-SiltCheck straw, excelsior or coir wattles, it is very important to consider functional freeboard height. Any wattle installation should be trenched in 3 - 4 inches. This trenching-in leaves a functional freeboard height that is only 65% to 70% of the diameter of the original wattle.

Therefore, BioD-SiltCheck 9 should be compared to a 12-in wattle. Similarly, the BioD-SiltCheck 12 should be compared to a 15-in wattle. When all factors are considered, it is obvious that the BioD-SiltCheck is the most cost effective, environmentally-friendly and effcient sediment control device on the market today.
